Originally from Reading I Joined Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks in December 2008 as Group Head of Entertainment. I love working in such a beautiful place and have made North Devon my permanent home. My role has developed over the years and after completing qualifications with the CIPD I have taken on the additional responsibilities of HR for the group. Most recently I have been trained as a Mental Health first aider which will enable me to be able to offer a positive support to all our team members.

I enjoy working with a diverse team of people all with different skills as this is what enable us to deliver a great holiday experience for our guests. I continue to feel challenged by my role and love the diversity each day brings.

I have worked for Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks for 13 years and I am an Assistant Manager for one of the 4 Holiday Parks. My job is to ensure the smooth and efficient management of the Park, providing the best possible facilities and customer service at all times.

Growing up in Woolacombe I have always been interested in the tourism industry and when I was 13 I wanted to start work for the company as I loved what they do, creating exciting holidays. I started on the kids bar and over the years I have worked in many departments, including the main bar, restaurant, housekeeping and Reception. Every year has been different and I have enjoyed learning different aspects of the company, which has enabled me to learn so many new skills and further my career. I have worked my way up and I have been an Assistant Manager for the past 3 years.

I enjoy doing my job as it gives me plenty of fulfilment, with every day being a different day and I am thankful to be given the opportunities I have and to work with an excellent team. I feel lucky to work in such a beautiful environment with the fantastic views of the area. Its gives me great satisfaction to see our guests having a great experience and enjoying their holiday, and over the years seeing the vast improvements being made to our fleet and facilities. 4 years have flown by working at Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks, starting at Woolacombe Bay as Assistant Manager for 2 and a bit years, then promoted to General Manager at Twitchen House in July 2019. My role is interesting, keeps my mind challenged but also truly rewarding. I work alongside a dedicated team with a common goal to make Twitchen House the best that it can be. We aim to deliver a location and accommodation for our guests to enjoy a first class family holiday and create treasured memories for years to come.

I have worked in the holiday and hospitality industry for over 30 years in locations all over England and consider myself privileged to be working in Woolacombe a special place on the North Devon Coast, I would say Devon’s best kept secret but with the amount of holiday guests that have found us it definitely isn’t a secret anymore.

My first foray into Devon life and more importantly Woolacombe Bay Parks, began at Easter in 2017. To be honest, before I came here, I hadn’t heard of the sandy pocket of North Devon called Woolacombe, but that soon changed; now all of my family and friends know about its beauty and what this part of the world has to offer. Woolacombe is a 30 minute walk or a 3 minute drive from Golden Coast Holiday Village which is where I work as an Accommodation Manager, and what a spectacular view you get when you turn the bend and see the coast line for the first time, it’s spectacularly unforgettable.

Whilst I have a wealth of experience within this role, I still find myself learning every day. My role requires me to wear many different hats but my organisation skills and unfaltering dedication make the job easier. One of the best things about my role, is letting the team have some autonomy to learn and be able to do their jobs without being micro managed. Golden Coast Holiday Village has 346 holiday homes for a range of budgets including; lodges, villas, bungalows, apartments and an array of caravans. We really do have something for everyone and this keeps me interested in improving our service to our guests and team alike.

My responsibilities include firstly, managing a team of around 60 people with a range of experience, abilities, age and nationalities. I love that team members can use the facilities (depending on availability) and also get discount if they wish to have their friends and family come and visit them for a break. I love the diversity and that every day is different. All of our parks have something to offer each member of the family and there are lots to do in and around the park for all ages including dogs. We even have Billy and Betty Beachballs who live in the rock pools on Woolacombe beach, how cool is that? My grandchildren love it and always ask if I’ve seen them when we Facetime!
